Reforestation & Vegetation Management

W. M. Beaty & Associates, Inc. (WBA) staff of resource professionals are highly trained and experienced to meet the reforestation, vegetation management and pest control needs of forest landowners.  A Registered Professional Forester (RPF) Background - USFS fire-killed trees and brush, Foreground - Beaty managed new forest a few years after wildfireand Licensed Pest Control Advisor (PCA) with over 30 years experience and highly trained forestry technicians apply the most up to date methods, to plan and implement cost effective and environmentally sound forest improvement projects.  We have planned and successfully administered reforestation and other forestland improvement and vegetation management projects under a variety of conditions on tens of thousands of acres throughout Northern California.  These projects have included the reforestation and restoration of over 35,000 acres of fire-damaged lands as well as forest plantation release, pest control, thinning, and fire hazard reduction projects on tens of thousands of acres.  W. M. Beaty & Associates, Inc. active participation for several decades in various cooperatives and associations has improved general knowledge and practices for interior California forests and specifically kept WBA managed forests on the leading edge of the best reforestation practices in interior California.

Reforestation

Detailed planning and careful administration throughout the numerous sequential reforestation stepsEight year old Beaty managed plantation in North Eastern Plumas County planted after a castastrophic wildfire is critical to obtain the excellent survival and growth rates characteristic of new forests established and managed by WBA.  This is especially true in California’s dry summer climate.  W. M. Beaty & Associates, Inc. evaluates the numerous characteristics of each site such as soils, climate, potential crop trees, competing vegetation, elevation, aspect, drainage, slope, access etc., and then prepares a plan of action.  Using the plan, we will then prepare and administer contracts with qualified contractors to complete the sequence of activities necessary for successful implementation.  These steps include preparing the site, collecting cones, and processing and sowing seed in nurseries to grow vigorous seedlings with high genetic quality.  Seedlings are then carefully transported, stored and planted using the best practices under expert supervision.

Vegetation Management and Pest Control

Excellent survival and growth is also obtained by using cost effective and environmentally safe methods to control weeds that otherwise compete aggressively with young trees for limited soil moisture and nutrients.  Vegetation management activities are also conducted to control unwanted non-native species, noxious weeds, reduce hazardous fuel loads and improve wildlife habitat.  Animal and insect pests are monitored and, when needed, pest control activities are planned and conducted to protect the forest.  W. M. Beaty & Associates, Inc. staff is experienced and highly qualified to prescribe treatments for controlling competing vegetation in young plantations and to prescribe other treatments for forest protection & improvement.
